Biography

Yves Torfs (° 1993) is a Belgian visual artist with a fascination for self-reflection / representation and explores this through a vast range of subjects going from architecture to portraits. This research starts from a ASD diagnosis and the confrontations / experiences with placing his own feelings in daily life. This social problem is illustrated by using a stand-off position towards his subjects, which in turn creates an often alienating situation. The dialogue between the presence / absence of perception (activity), the application of structural repetition and references to periods within the history of photography and art history are regularly discussed in Yves's work. His position for using the medium of digital photography is also made very clear by means of exif data for the titles of each image. The moment in time becomes just as important as the depicted subject.
